Team Uniforms

The basic team uniform is $14 for the singlet, $14 for the shorts, and will be available at the Runners Market (4443 Kingston Pike, 865-588-1650) beginning on June 7.

All athletes birth-years 1997 or younger are required to have this uniform.

Athletes that were born in 1996 or earlier who wish to wear an alternative uniform may do so under 3 conditions:

  • It is team colors, royal blue with either white or black.
  • You check with Shane Begnaud first to make sure it complies with AAU rules (“No bare midriffs.”)
  • It has a KTC logo screened on the top.  Keep in mind that all members of a relay team must wear the same uniform.

For information about alternative uniforms, cick here.

Jobs for Parents

Primarily (aside from being a chauffeur) a parent’s job is to be supportive and encouraging of their child-athletes.  We request you to please stay in the bleachers during practice and allow the coaches to do their jobs without interruption.  Gathering around your childrens event venue is disruptive to both coach and athllete.   A seat in the bleachers will allow you to view the entire track area.

For those of you who would like to be more involved, we will need some help collecting and organizing documents in the press box and entering data into the computer.   Finally, we will need parent volunteers to work at both the Region 3A meet .  More information will be forthcoming regarding sign-up for these volunteer positions.  Parent chaperone positions for away meets will be determined by competitive team administrative staff.  Chaperones are required to be with the team during away trips.  Please be advised that being a chaperone is not a free trip on a bus -- it is a significant commitment of time and effort to the entie team and not just your own children.  Please do not consider being a chaperone unless you are willing to potentially spend more time at the team hotel than the track.

Track and Field Safety

Track and field is by far one of the safest sports you will ever participate in.  However, there are a few things you should know to help ensure that your child has a safe and successful summer.

First of all: HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE!  Tennessee summers are hot, and active children will become dehydrated amazingly quickly.  Hydration must become a constant habit, not just something you do before practices and competitions.  Well hydrated athletes not only perform better, but they are also much less likely to suffer from heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Secondly, it is important to be aware of what is going on around you at practice, especially our practices!  Never step onto the track without first looking to be sure no one is coming.  Running athletes should NEVER CROSS THE INFIELD during practice.  Getting run over by a pole vaulter or a long jumper isn’t fun, and being struck by a shot put or discus could be fatal!  Throwing athletes should never turn their backs to another athlete who is about to throw, and should never horseplay around the implements.  Shot puts, discuses, and javelins are weapons of war, and should always be treated with the appropriate respect!
